THE HEROES FUND
Financial assistance for any local hero that is injured or killed in the line of duty
The Heroes Fund was established to honor the memory of former Cincinnati Police Sergeant, Eric Sierra. This fund provides financial assistance to any local police officer, firefighter or military member that is seriously injured or killed in the line of duty. When funds allow, we are also able to use this fund to assist local heroes who have just fallen on a time of need.
Contributions can be made directly to the Heroes Fund by personal donations, or by visiting Fretboard Brewing Company (click for website) Cincinnati, OH to order a pint of S23 Session IPA. Thanks to them, $0.50 from each pint of S23 sold is donated to The Heroes Fund. |
Their stories:
Let me introduce you to Wonder Women Emma!!! Emma decided to surprise her parents by coming into this world several weeks early. Because she was so excited to meet her parents early, she had to spend several days in the NICU after birth. She grew stronger and stronger during those days and was eventually able to go home to see her new bedroom and siblings. Emma is a happy little girl and loves to spend time napping and cuddling with her parents. A couple months ago her parents started to notice that things were just not right with sweet Emma, so off to the doctor they went. Thinking that poor Emma was having some complications in her kidneys, the doctors decided to investigate further. While doing a scan to check her kidney, doctors discovered something that neither them nor their parents expected. They found a mass and at 3 months old, Emma has been diagnosed with a cancer called Neuroblastoma.
Emma had to undergo several tests and further scans in the weeks following her diagnosis. Each time Emma had to have a scan conducted, she had to spend the night in the hospital. After all of the tests were complete, doctors decided that surgery was the best option.
Just prior to Emma’s surgery, her father had to undergo surgery as well for an injury he sustained while at work. You see; Emma is not the only hero of this story, her daddy is a local law enforcement hero as well. With daddy on the mends and Emma’s surgery just days away, the family was hit with another devastating blow. With record rainfall in the area, the basement of their home flooded. The family did what they could after the flooding, but they had to set it aside because it was time to get Wonder Women healed.
Just last week Emma underwent surgery to remove the mass and her adrenal gland. The surgery went GREAT and doctors believe that they were able to remove all of the cancer. Emma is now on the mends and improving with each passing day. There is still a long road ahead of her filled with scans and hospital stays, but she’s stronger than all of us.
With the support of EACH and EVERY one of you, Behind the Badge was able to provide this little Hero and her Hero family with a check to help take away some of the financial burden they are going to endure. With your help, Emma and her family can focus on getting better and spending quality time with one another.
The Behind the Badge family would like to thank all of our supporters and Fretboard Brewing for all of your help. If it wasn’t for you, we would not be able to touch the lives of people like Emma and her family.
